Yahoo hosts millionth railfan e-group

March 19, 2006

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA | In a press release issued today, Yahoo! Inc (Nasdaq YHOO) anounced that it now has one million Yahoo! email groups dedicated to railfan topics. The millionth group was titled "santafewemissyou@yahoogroups.com" said Bob Bobertson, assistant senior vice-president for meaningless business units

According to Yahoo!, at least one in every four messages on the average railfan themed e-group now contain the words "please join my new yahoo group". Continued Bobertson: "there are now more messages with invitations to new yahoo groups than with advertisements for porno"

The second most popular message contains random numbers of locomotives recently seen by members of the group, followed by complaints about water bottles being tossed at them by engineers on passing trains.

Market anylists have welcomed the news, hoping to capitalize on Yahoo! plans to market their personals services to this market. "Face it, most of these people have no lives off the internet," said Bobertson. "If they ever want to get laid, they're really going to need Yahoo! Personals."
